- I grew up pouring through the family photo album filled with shots of family members posing with their cars from 1918 through the early 1960's. I really thought the old cars were cool. In 1969 Dad took me to the Grand National Roadster Show where there were several cars from the 20's, and a few from the 30's (We made it an annual tradition, right up until that show moved to Pomona.). in 1972 The Waltons debuted on TV, I wanted a Model A coupe like John-boy! That same year we discovered a rusting 1928 Essex Tudor on the property adjacent to Grandma's cousins ranch (I kept visiting it, trying to pry parts off it... all I have are two banged up hubcaps!).
In 1973 the movie American Graffiti hit the screen, and I wanted a deuce coupe!!! I started saving my lawn mowing money... found a $300.00 1930 Ford Coupe, that dad would not let me buy! The next year I found my 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe sitting along a narrow country road in the Sierra foothills and got it for $225.00!
