Re: License Plate Toppers
Here is a topper from my wife's grandfathers Ford dealership here in Oklahoma. It is from the late thirties early 40's. I made a mount for the front bumper behind the center bumper clamp.

Hello Bill. Thanks for your interest. I am just a hobbiest that had an ideal and followed thru. What I did was take a 30's era topper and use it to get a proper size. Then I drew up the Old Timer design. I sent my design to OBrien Truckers and they did the casting for me. We had 50 of these made up about 18 years ago. Check out www.obrientruckers.com. I am not sure of what current pricing is but the web site would have information on their pricing. The more copies you buy the cheaper the rate. When I had these made I think their minimun order was only ten copies. First rate service to. I know of one club in TN (Smoky Mountain) used my basic design to make up some club toppers for their club. I was told that they had a club member at the time that did their castings in his garage. Several guys have talked to me at national meets about this club topper, made pictures, drawings, etc. for getting ideals about having toppers made up for their clubs. It is an impressive sight to have twenty Model A's lined up all with a club topper displayed on the headlight bar at a show. Last edited by Richard Wilson; 03-10-2013 at 11:52 AM. |

Re: License Plate Toppers
Richard, that isn't off topic at all. Club license toppers was one of my original questions.
My firend has a cast topper from Bemidji, Minnesota. As I recall it said "BEMIDJI the WORLD'S ICEBOX". The topper is broken, and we'd like to have some reproduced. |

Re: License Plate Toppers
There are several sources in Hemmings and one of the biggest car club plaque makers is over on the HAMB. In fact, he just did another run of OFC toppers for the Old Farts Club that is a spin off on the HAMB.

Re: License Plate Toppers
I have a Ruptured duck on one of my cars. It causes comments. We did a Mt Vernom Topper some years back. I also have a "Model A Club of America " topper from the '50's in the DC area.

Re: License Plate Toppers
When I was chapter president, I had these club plaques made up for the board members one Christmas. The New Zealand Auto Club topper is on my roadster. The California Auto Club is very common on cars here. The Dekalb corn topper was a common one in my father's home state. The 18th amendment plate isn't a topper, but is called a booster plate; it will hang from the right side tail light when I get that installed.

Re: License Plate Toppers
Here is a topper bracket that I made from 1/4" aluminum plate that holds both a license plate and a AAA topper unobtrusively and very firmly.
You'll just have to excuse the fact that it's a SS bumper on a non-stock A, but you can get the idea. |

Re: License Plate Toppers
That's really a slick design on the bracket!
You'll have to go into business making them. |

Re: License Plate Toppers
I have some information for those clubs that would like to design and purchase a batch of toppers. The Smoky Mountain Club purchased about 100 of these from Louie Wueller about 6 years ago. We sold them to members at $20 each. Louie lives near Toledo OH and spends the winters in Florida. He would welcome calls from those interested. A photo of what is desired is required. This will be sent out for a mold and then the toppers will be cast. His Florida number is 813-395-2150.

Re: License Plate Toppers
The local town had some made up long time ago. I sent one to Dennis O'Brien and he copied some for me. I'm sure he could copy your friend's broken one. I would deal with him again.

Here's the OFC topper along with an original American Beach topper. Source for cast aluminum toppers:

Re: License Plate Toppers
Joop, funny you should post that first one with turn signals. That's exactly what I had in mind for mine. Make a spare tire bracket and put turn signals on the ends of the topper.
That windmill is really neat. Where did you get those nice turn arrows? Thanks |

Bought them in Hershey many years ago. Never seen one like the Cape cod one anywhere. |

Re: License Plate Toppers
Here are a couple toppers that I have on my cars.
1. An aluminum "fantasy" topper (new) that I bought at a Motorcycle Swap Meet. I spent several hours filing and sanding the crude casting, before painting it with Testors Model Paint. 2. This is an old original cast iron (magnetic) Daytona Beach topper. MIKE CLICK ON PHOTOS TO ENLARGE - Twice Last edited by FL&WVMIKE; 03-14-2013 at 08:56 AM. |
