Any one know the oil cap. in a 1962 292?
I wasn't going to bother with an oil change since I'm swapping motors this winter, but I'm going to do it right and see how it affects the oil pressure. The dipstick in this motor has various lines on it made by others and I just don't trust that it is original. I figured the capacity once before and can't find it. If anyone knows off hand I'll be happy to take the info., otherwise I will do some reading and find it again. Thanks- John.

Hey John,
Thanks for the info on the site. The shop manual that I have say's the capacity for the 272 with the two barrel carb is 5 quarts and the 272 with the four barrel carb is 6 quarts. It also says the hot oil pressure is between 45 and 50 lbs @ 2000 RPM. |

The Y blocks all came with the factory installed full flow oil filter... The proper amount of oil for a Y block is 5 quarts if you change the filter like it is recommended.

Re: Any one know the oil cap. in a 1962 292?
Thanks guys. I just stopped at my local auto parts store and bought 5 qts of 10W-40 and one qt. of Lucas Engine treatment. I may return the oil and go with 20-50 instead. As I was ordering the oil filter the clerk was having some trouble and I remembered something. I really hate to admit to doing something no Ford Barner would ever do, but on my last oil change I was pressed for time and swung through a Jiffy Lube. To make matters worse I opted for a synthetic blend they had on special and today I started wondering if they maybe put an inferior or wrong oil filter on. Had to order my oil filter, but I will never mistreat my Ford like that again. I can't wait to see if there is significant improvement. - John
