I am assuming they didn't have sealed bearings. Mine is a replacement generator, and I am not sure where to lube it.

Close to the center of the front and rear plate there are oil caps.... with flip top lids. Pop them open and oil away. Yours is a 30-31 and has bushings, unlike the 28-29's with bearings.

Some 1930's also have bearings. Mine is an April car and has bearings in the generator. I think this is close to the last month of production before they changed to bushings.

if the generator has the oil caps it needs oil about every 500 miles, it only needs 2 or 3 drops of 3n1 or sewing machine oil, dont over oil if you do it will run into the gen, the liter the oil the better it runs into the bushing which is very porous which lets the oil run thru it to lube the gen shaft

The generator pictured with 2 wires coming out of the case, rather than a stud is a Model B, but will work fine and gets oiled the same as the Model A Autolite style.
Powerhouse generators have a large grease pocket and don't get relubed until the next rebuild. |

I agree with Jeff, and that's why I always suggest rebuilding the 5 bolt-on's before trusting the car to trips.

Almost all. Some have had modern sealed front bearings installed. That one does not look like a recent rebuild.
