Default 1936/7 REMOVING ENGINE with TRANI

Hi Barners,

Well, I'm finally almost ready for the BJG lift. I'm gong to take my1937 Flathead engine with Transmission out of my 1936 car. Two eye injuries and more cuts than I can count later.

What is the best way to disconnect the Transmission from the Driveshaft? There are 3 pairs of bolts at the junction of the Trani and Axle shaft. Which psairs need to come out and in what order? Do I need to do any supporting from below? If yes, where?

I will try to add photos. Bolt pairs are numbered in the photos. (wish me luck!!)
Thanks in advance.

Dont know as i always leave the tranny in,i just remove the engine.Hope you removed the rad. WP's ,dist, etc. from the front of engine. Mine 36 just clears the grill which i dont remove. Cinch the picker as close to the engine as possible to clear grill. Its up pretty high at that point. lol. ken ct.

Bruce,
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. We removed the engine and transmission separately. You will have to support the transmission if you separate them.

This method did not work. The hangers hit the firewall and would not let the engine go back far enough.

This worked with the chains attached to the intake bolts. It went in very easy with this method and a lot easier to bolt up. Hope this helps.

PS Make sure the intake bolts are long enough to bear the weight of the engine.

Like Ken/Shadetree, I left my 3speed bolted down pulled the motor then removed the 3speed. When done set and supported motor then installed 3speed, in (N) she lined right in. Don't forget your "chatter rod's"

Of course I gotta' be different . I pull the engine and transmission as one unit if I'm planning to do work on the transmission as well as the engine. I did this on my '35 fordor and I'm just about ready to do this again on my '35 5w Avatar car. Now when i put them back in I find it easier to put the transmission in first and then put the engine back in using alignment rods. I 'm usually working alone so this is just my way of doing things that work best for me.
