Re: Kearney Foundry 34 heads
Kearney has also made Lincoln V12 and Ardun heads. My RG took a tour through the foundry. From model room to cleaned castings, a very interesting place. I don't know of the arrangements with the machine shop, although with flatheads, there is minimal machining to do anyway. One of our respected V8 members was a principal in Kearney some years back.

Re: Kearney Foundry 34 heads
I also have these heads, on my '36 ford. I purchased them from Jon Scobel at Kearney in 1996 and they have been great- look nice and no overheating (of course I am in Minnesota!).

Re: Kearney Foundry 34 heads
Scott, A frustrating story also from 1996: Jon had packed a half dozen sets of heads to sell at the "Fords and Flowers" Meet in Victoria. He was detained at the border, his Lincoln Zephyr was searched, and he had to post a $1000 bond against the import tax should he sell any heads in Canada. This took from early morning till mid afternoon. When we were finally able to get together again, all he would talk about was the White Castle Hamburgers he missed out on while being detained! Of course, he was able only to take orders, 'cause nobody wanted to pay the tax. If you met him in Victoria, he likely didn't tell the story, as he was pretty miffed about the experience.

Re: Kearney Foundry 34 heads
ford38, I met Jon Scobel at the V8 meet in Dearborn 1993 but I unfortunately missed the "Fords and Flowers". At the swap meet area he had a table set up with a sample of his new heads, including a nice sketch of a '35 Ford and greyhound. One of the heads was cut in cross section so you could see inside. I think I initially ordered a set for my '34 Ford, and liked them so well that I bought a pair through the mail for my '36 a few years later.
He told me he researched the Ford Archives quite a bit because he wanted to get the markings and numbers right. Also took care in making the heads with modern durable aluminum and still having a stock appearance. So I am sure there was alot of time and frustration spent, but the result was a superb reproduction. |

I have a set and I love them. One caution though, they are thicker than Ford heads and you may need to adjust your studs a bit.

Re: Kearney Foundry 34 heads
Ol'Ron,When I bought a set for my '35 about 9 or 10 years ago, he made only heads for domed pistons, but you could get any head data that you wanted. So flat tops would also have to use heads with the dome clearance. Don't know if this is still true. Jon was sick at the time I was waiting for my set and it took a long time. Hope he is feeling better now.
