What body is on that AA? Did it have a particular name with the pick-up type bed?

I think they called it an express bed. I have one but it is pretty much rusted away. It has a flat bed and the sides are round at the bottom and then they go up for a foot or so.

Love the Waltons too but if you want to see Model A's and other brands of vehicles of the 30's check out Wind at my Back. It's on INSP, (Inspirational Channel). You can see many old cars on almost every episode. I love it and watch every chance I get.

I loved watching The Waltons when i was a kid mostly for the cars. My dad used to tell me that times were ALOT harder in the 1930s than they made it look on that show, but he said it was a much simpler and happier time. Wish I had one more day with dad watching The Waltons and talking about old cars.

And they sure made it look easy to fit 3 people in the Coupe. I can tell you from experience that doesn't work now-a-days lol.

I know for a fact that over the last 50 years that these Model A's have shrunk. I use to get 3 in the front seat of my AA as well as my Fordor back then. Not any more, now 2 of us is a tight fit!

That's the main reason I try to never have mine in the rain. It's shrunk enough already.

Chris, you need to run that story again about the dead guy at the carnival. That was something else! It must have been almost 10 years ago when I read that on Shelly's Fordbarn.

It's John-Boy's Model A that's whitish. ('28 or '29?) I don't think it's exactly white but maybe beige or cream colored. Remember the first episode when he got it? I think it was dark green or black until he painted it. Picture I found on the 'net:

Their truck was dark green.

My '28 Roadster was supposedly leased to Hollywood for a number of years by the owner before my Dad and I got it and it was on the Walton's as well as the original Bonnie and Clyde as well as a lot of other shows produced during that time frame.

It's been so long since I've seen the show... the truck looked like a "pick-up", but I can't remember if the express box was steel, or if it was a wooden "grain box" with flared sides ?

TV camerasand outdoor lighting, not original colors dictate the paint colors.

There was also a white 28/29 roadster, but it was hot rodded, so belongs on the hamb more.

I remember John-Boy's coupe being a light color, but we had a black & white set then, so it was all rendered in varying shades of gray...

If you'd like another place to visit with or without your Model 'A', try Mt Airy, NC. My wife and I went there a couple of years ago and we went to Floyd's Barber Shop. I even got a haircut for $8.00 by the old barber who actually used to cut Andy Griffith's hair when Andy was a kid. I was kinda nervous when that 83 yr old Barber walked up to me sitting in that chair and he was sharpening his "Straight Edge". Then he used that Blade on me. Did a good job tho. Took nearly 45 minutes 'cause he was talking to me and other customers all the time while he waived that knife around.

John Boy painted his dark-colored coupe tan, and I think he also changed it from a 30-31 to a 28-29 when he painted it! I've only seen that episode one time--I don't know why I've not seen it in the hundreds of times the series has been re-run--but my memory is that the car was a 30-31 when he first got it. Anybody remember better than I do?

I have a pair of those, nearly six foot long running boards, shown on their "AA" truck. They are now working as shelves, atop a pair of NOS V8 transmission housings.

Walton's Mountian is in Schuyler, VA. We took a model A trip there many years ago. The little village is neat to visit as is the Museum. They loved us in our Model A's. I gave someone's aunt a ride. She loved it and took me on a tour of the village naming everyone's home and plenty of stories.

In keeping with the theme of the show "TIMES ARE TOUGH" and you have to do what you have to do to earn a buck. LOL

Yep, those Black Hills pine needles don't have any preservative in them!
That's too bad because those express trucks are sure good looking and rare.

FYI - The photos above are of a TT express body. The AA express body has wheel wells stamped into the sides and the sills are tapered to fit the AA frame.

The first picture is the AA express. The second picture is the TT express

The Walton's AA express is a '29. In one show the right side of the truck was shown. It didn't have the spare wheel mounted and the '29 side wheel carrier could be seen.

I posted this link several years ago on the old Fordbarn but maybe it is time to talk about it again. The IMdb Vehicle site which shows still pictures from TVs & Movies, and is a great place to hang out and just look at old cars. You can search by the type of vehicle, ...or the TV/Movie, --or even for shows/movies with Model AA trucks in them. CLICK HERE to see that. Happy surfing......

That sure is a good looking truck!

Notice the rust stain down the front of the radiator. That's another reason to always use antifreeze.
