Default Building A Car In 87 Minutes

I just had to share this wonderful illustration Ford made in recognition of their 50th anniversary in 1953. The simplified floor plan was meant to show customers how quickly and e... To read the rest of this blog entry from The Ford Barn, click here.

I first seen that book when I was a kid,.... Dad was a Test Driver at Ford's DPG and brought a copy home one day,.... I forgot all about it until you posted this,.. I will have to see if anyone knows what happened to it.

Thanks for these memories Ryan,... And thanks for bringing the Ford Barn to the next level,...... this is a fun sight !

I bought an original (with the additional paper dust cover still on it) at a car show in 1975. I think I paid fifty cents for it. I believe it was the first use of color photos in Ford promotional material. Most of the photos feature '52 cars, etc., most likely to have the books printed and available at dealerships for the introduction of the ’53 Fords.

It was a great way to show the average person how a vehicle is assembled, including it's sub assemblies. The thought and engineering that goes into an assembly line design is amazing. LouB.

When I was a kid, we used to go to Beaumont, Texas to visit my grandmother. Buried away in a box in her garage was a copy of this book. I headed straight out there and grabbed it every time we went there. One day she told me I could have it. It was given to a friend when she bought a new Ford and had no interest in it. If you can get your hands on it, it's a great book on how they made 'em, the people behind the cars and a lot more. This graphic probably fascinated me more than anything in the book. One of my prized possessions to this very day. Glad it surfaced here.

Are you sure about the assembly time for the Fusion? Last summer I visited F150 production at the Rouge and a new F150 would come off the assembly line every minute. Very impressive plant tour for any Fordophile.
