Here are a couple pictures I took at the Sharon Wi Model A days last year. The pop corn truck was at a fall festival just up the road from me.

The image is a 1931 dealer's promotional shot. Perhaps another Fordbarner will know where it was taken?

Pretty sure that photo was taken at the Louisville, KY Assembly plant. I bought the same photo from Bratton's a few years back. |

That's a beer advertising truck, alright, with what appears to be a powerful sound system. Here's a larger image. Blatz resumed brewing beer in 1933, after the 21st Amendment was ratified. I wonder whether this truck was created in 1933, on a 1931 pickup chassis, to proclaim the event? Note the custom paint job (light fenders) and, despite the extreme customization, whitewall tires.

Here are 2 pic's of my Grandfathers 1930 Deluxe Delivery he had for the Family Printing Business. The first one is of my Father at the age of 11 in Jan. 1931 (notice the Tire Chains and the 1931 license plate). The second one is of my aunt and uncle taken in July 1931. I bought one just like it in 1971 and am almost done re-restoring it . It's now done. Here is a new pic

As NEW England prepares for another wintry blast, let's head to OLD England...
A classy "Horse Box" (top): Can anyone think of another large commercial buyer, other than the Royal Mail, that purchased their "A's" "as Henry intended"... that is, without bumpers? This would be a GREAT rig to reproduce! Ice cream, anyone? Biscuits, anyone? |

Sam: I only have one period image of a De Luxe pickup. It's not really an "A;" it's a GAZ... and the picture was taken in Moscow in 1933. I've always relished two things about this image: (1) Joe Stalin produced a "De Luxe" model, and (2) Young people everywhere enjoyed having their pictures taken with Model "A's!" Enjoy.

Many of us are familiar with the WWII roles played by "AA's" produced in England and Germany and GAZ "AA's" produced in the Soviet Union.
Here are a couple of images from an earlier conflict... the Brazilian Revolution of 1930. Looks like the Brazilians opted for the extra-cost bumpers on the phaeton, but not on the commercial vehicles. |

That is Ezra Meeker in his "Model A Covered Wagon". He was quite a self-promoting pioneer who made an effort to draw attention to preserving what was left of The Oregon Trail.

My '29 Panel Delivery in 1971 and now. The rest of the story is here: http://www.thefreemancenter.com/Free...y_History.html
I've also been part of a "Yahoo Group" of Model A Panel owners for a few years. We are always looking for others who are interested in these old trucks. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/modelapaneltrucks/

Ford AA truck 1931 (FP 1 - 1)
A new search for armored vehicles started in 1930. After looking at vehicles as the Carden-Loyd VI Light Tank and the French Autochienille de Cavallerie M 1928, economy forced the Army to build their own vehicles for evaluation. The chassis chosen was a Ford, and the "armor" was made of steel-plates which made it possible to alter the vehicle when required. The truck was armed with a 20 mm machine canon and 2 machine guns. Evaluation of this new vehicle started in October 1931 where it participated in a spring exercise. The vehicle didīnt perform that well, and by the end of the year the project was cancelled. ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us Ford AA truck 1931 (FP 1 - 2) New trials took place starting in May in 1932 with a modified version of the Ford truck (FP 1 - 2). Results from the trials not available. ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us Last edited by ratamahata; 01-14-2011 at 10:05 AM. |

John,
The picture you posted in post #68 is not of a GAZ truck, it is in fact the first production vehicle, (a AA) to roll off the assembly line at the Dagenham UK plant Oct 1931. Regards Brian T. |

The Model A in this picture and the original photo are from Switzerland (not Denmark). Both this photo and the vehicle belong to Marcus Maurer! He states that the truck was made by a Swiss company Peter & Co AG from Liestal who made the wheelbase enlargement (which is 30 cm longer than original). Wilhelm Frey Wagenbau, also from Liestal, made the wooden cabin and also the bed. More information on this truck and it's restoration can be found on Marcus' web site at the following link: http://www.maurer-markus.ch/ford_a/f..._daten.en.html Here is another photo from his web site with the truck before he started restoring it: ![]() Fordially, Brad in Germany |

Photo history #51, page 3...
The photo is that of Ezra Meeker, who was 98 years of age at the time. Ford Motor Company presented the 1928 AA Ford to Meeker as he was planing his 6th trip across the American (USA) continent to once again call the attention to the Old Oregon Trail. Three (3) trips were by ox team (first in 1852), 1 by motor car and 1 by airplane. (Ford News, Vol. 8, #22) The vehicle seen in #51 was dubed the "oxmobile" and it was set up so as he could cook and sleep as well as travel in his "Ford covered wagon". It was understood that Henry Ford expressed an interest in the "oxmobile" when Meeker completed the trip and it was to be placed in Henry Ford's American Museum in Greenfield Village. However the Oregon Trail Memorial Association also wanted it. However before Meeker could make the trip, he passed away. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE "OXMOBILE"? That is a good question. Neither the Ford Museum nor the Oregon Trail Memorial Association has it nor is there any more known information on the vehicle. Anybody know the rest of the story? Pluck

Not a commercial body style, but I think this qualifies as a commercial vehicle.

Luke, do you have any idea where the Pael Delivery image was taken? I tried to zoom in to read the plate, but I can't make it out; I do notice, however, that there seems to be an exhaust extension sticking out between the left fender and the tail lamp. Wonder why?
Another nice example of a custom commercial paint job, with light paint on the fenders, hedlamp shells, etc. |

John,
I enlarged it with Picasa photo viewer and from what I can see the plate says Colorado. That tail pipe is interesting isn't it! |

![]() John Alinder's original 1929 PU with a fuel tank on the back. I took this picture a few years ago at the Twin Cities Ford Plant when we got to drive our Model A on the final assembly line. Most of our clubs A's were built in this plant. |

The windshield side glass and that part of the front area look like the Bender bodys on the 314 Whites, of 1931.

A few more passenger cars in commercial, non-police, applications.
First, during the summer of 1931 (but after July 9 ), here's a Coupe with Ohio "City Car" plates and an undecipherable logo on the door on an inspection job at an industrial site. I suppose that the off-center bumper clamp and plate were close enough for government work. Also, check out the cable and padlock spare tire lock on the '30 Tudor.Meanwhile, in Seattle, another municipal government Coupe looks a little the worse for wear. Considering the damaged front suspension, the bent passenger's side windshield post and door pillar, and the shattered window, we can only assume that the other side of the car looks pretty bad. Wish we had a picture of that side. Pity, too; the paint looks so fresh! |

Now that we've added police vehicles, here's a customized Police Patrol unit in use by the Shanghai Police in 1931. (I know it's not a '31, but that's when the photo was taken. Check out the drop-down armored windshield cover!)Wonder if they had problems with Chinese parts?

The parts books here used the same body numbers as the U.S. eg 40A & B etc. as most of the commercial bodies were built to order they were just called by their names eg Deluxe Express Delivery.

While we're on the bus topic, here are a few images.
I'll respond to the Pepsi truck with a Coca Cola truck at a later date ![]() First, the ideal school bus: In the real world, not every school bus was as pretty as the ad. Wonder what it was like to ride waaaay back of the rear axle? Okay, okay... I know it's a GAZ, but it's sure a nice looking bus (especially the faired cowl): |

The Ohio club made a silent film that was shown at the Indy National meet a few years ago, and there was a scene with a school bus that had a bench seat down each side and one down the middle. What a difference from now. Kids would have loved to ride on padded seats back then. I think the bus is owned by Roger Kauffman

Judging from the radiator shell, this is either a commercial "A" or a VERY tarnished passenger car. Either way, the Coca-Cola sign continues the theme of my last post. Let's just assume that the Coke was delivered by a commercial "A," shall we?

Surfing in the web recently found a photo of a truck, I think is a ford 32ī the curiously of the photo is the inscription on the sides ( Holinger- Weidmann) (quesos y hielo) (Humboldt, provincia de Santa Fe). Why? because I live in the province Santa Fe near to the city of Humboldt. (Holinger- Weidmann) the company was selling cheese and ice. When they bought the truck, the company was send a picture and a negative of this truck to the magazine (mundo ford) with the hope that the manager of the magazine for publicate the photo...
I never saw a body like this. I donīt know the truck was fabricate in USA or is a modify truck constructed in Argentina. |

I'm on a roll but here is a final set featuring my late '31 Steel top.
First pic is the day it was finished (June 27th 2003). Second pic shows the steel top from overhead as well as how I did the wood in the bed. Had to put in a pic of Jim Brand pinstriping in Madison, 2004. Last two pics are after I got rid of the whitewalls and put on some new Goodyear Blackwalls, can't believe how much cooler the truck looks with them! -Tim |

In honor of the weather (in the US, at least) here are four images of commercial bodies in the snow :
First, a stake body in a factory photo: Second, a similar truck in real life (note the shortened running board, and apron, and the lack of rear fenders): Third, does this ever look cold! Look closely... I'm all but certain that's an AA, not a GAZ: Fourth, GAZ AA's experienced some of the most serious snow conditions ever (apart from the two "A" snowmobiles that Byrd abandoned in Antarctica in 1933). This looks to me to be Wehrmacht soldiers pushing a captured Red Army Gaz, but I may be wrong. Anyone have any better information? |

During 1928, Mifflinburg claimed that they were the second largest manufacturer of wooden bodies in the United States. Approximately 20-25 bodies were completed each day with annual sales of close to $1 million dollars. Although they were not selected to contribute to Fords 1928-1932 Model A station wagon program, Mifflinburg offered a slip-in cargo body for the Model A Business Coupe and Roadster. The slip-in pick-up bed was installed in place of the rear deck lid or rumble seat creating an open cargo area that extended 18 inch from the rear of the body.

Bick I think you're right. If I recall correctly, it's a fire brigade member's funeral procession some time in the mid to late thirties.

The Kalamazoo Railway Supply Co. made a Model A based inspection car. Several railroad history websites have original images. Here's an ad from a trade journal:

I never really thought about it...but it looks like those little four cylinder...24 H.P. engines could pull alot of weight. I want to pull a trailer behind my 30 coupe with my 1919 Indian powerplus on it. I wasn't sure about it...but it dosen't look like a problem at all. What do you think.

Several years ago at an auction we found a "box" like this. An old fella told us that it was a school bus. Oringinally it was wenched on the back of a hay rackand used to pick up the kids for a country school. Later he said they used a truck to do the hauling. During the summer it would be off loaded so the wagon or truck could be use for other purposes. Ron |

Years ago I bought a poster of a magician and his AA. Try as I may, I just get a little picture of a cartoon landscape surrounded by 9 little squares when I try to post it. So I posted it as an album on my Deluxe Delivery member's page. Check it out !

There are a TON of commercial vehicles in the Ford News publications from 1928-1931.
I wonder if Ford still has all those photos? Pluck

Pluck,
Most of the official Ford AA commercial vehicle photos are available from MAFFI. They can be previewed on their web site at the following link: http://www.maffi.org/factoryphotos/commercial/ Here is a sample of one of the preview photos: ![]() The following MAFFI link provides guidance on how to get full sized copies of those photos: http://www.maffi.org/My_Homepage_Files/Page12.html The photos they offer were scanned from an original Ford Commercial Vehicle dealership sales book (I believe from 1930). Another DeLuxe Pickup (a/k/a GAZ 4) in eastern Europe... with custom wheels and tires. Russia produced MANY more Deluxe Pickups than did Ford USA. Did any survive?
