Restoration Qs...28-29 Front Splash Shield
I have a very nice 28 front splash shield. The JS states.."All surfaces
in all years had a slight convex(rather than flat) surfaces." The one that I have is like this, except the center section in NOT symmetrical. One side is more convex than the other side. The question is... Does any have a good / great photo(s) of the area? Can you tell me how much "crown" so I can adjust(beat the panel) into the correct shape? Thanks |

Re: Restoration Qs...28-29 Front Splash Shield
Thanks Ward!
Never thought about measuring it that way. The sides are good...it's the center section that's off. Hopefully the photos show it well. I used Dykem for the contrast... I'm also adding one of the sides for reference...the do indeed have a larger convex area. They also match left and right. The driver side has a lower convex crown...and I think that's the problem. Dudley, here are a couple of pictures of an NOS 1929 front splash shield that is on my OCPU. The paint is original. Even though it is a '29 and not a '28, I think that the contours are the same on the sides and front.

Re: Restoration Qs...28-29 Front Splash Shield
Thanks Gary!
I can see the crown on either side, but the center is tough to tell. It looks flat in the photo. Too Ward and Gary..questions.. 1. Does the crown in the center look okay? Too much? 2. The RT, to me, looks better than the LT side(LT looks flat)..your thoughts? 3. There are 2 flat spots(look original) were the felts get riveted to..correct? 4. The "flow" of the crown from the center too the RT side feels good, from the center to the LT it becomes damn near flat!? Ya,..I know I'm a pain on this thing....I'd just like to get it right. |

Ward, that seems to work! I have about 1/16" too a short 3/32". This
thing has to be close,...I just finished putting the convex in the low side, LT side. It feels and looks much better...I'm going to check the fit tomorrow. Yes, maybe Gary will confirm. This has been fun! Thanks again, Dudley |

It fits! Tight against the the horns and flat on the top, across the front cross member. All this with no screws(it holds itself up), and the "D" nuts line up perfectly. Never realized, with the convex on the sides, how open the bottom of the horns are. Again, thank you, Dudley |
