Front hub races, yes, another question
I seem to be dominating the forum with my questions. I hope others are learning something and not just me.
Regarding the races: is the part inside the hub with the slots 180 degrees from each other part of the race? If it is not, I don't see a way to get a tool through to catch the race shoulder to push them out. Guidance requested, and thank you. |

Long sharp punch will catch the sides to knock loose...

The only bad question is the one you didn't ask. Keep 'em coming. We don't pretend, as individuals, to know everything, but as group we can solve almost any problem you can throw at us.

Re: Front hub races, yes, another question
No, the races are bright steel parts, and you use those 'notches' in the later hubs to provide a window for a long punch. The outer race is an easy straight punch. The inner race can be tricky. Back in the day were bent tip or angled punch to get thru the hub and get contact on the race.
You can make your own, this one using a long cement star drill, cut away section of the star for a broad tip, and cut away the shaft for clearance down into the Ford hub. |

Those slots are there to enable you to insert that punch to knock out the race. Without the slot you would have to have a punch bend at almost 90 degrees.
