Default Color of my Engine

Now that Iam able to upload pics once again, I wanted to show my new engine, it was a short block and not painted, I liked the look so I sprayed it Cast Iron grey instead, didn't like the lollipop green.

I always thought ford engine green was more the color of spinach, but your color is close enough for the colorblind. You did a nice job putting it on.

Well, that sure is a new way to mount the cutout.
I see you now have an alternator.

Tom, that was a 9N from the previous owner, that's the way he had the cutout on.

'Sorry to drag this discussion over into the Model T world, but there has been an on-going controversy for years whether the Model T engine was painted black on the assembly line, left unpainted, or what. Good arguments for both. Most people agree that '26-27 engines were painted Ford Engine Green or some kind of green, which continued into the Model A era. But what about the so-called "black era" Model T's (non-brass),1917-1925? A lot of T guys paint their engines black, but others who want the cast iron look of an unpainted engine do what you have done with Cast Blast gray paint. I do that, too.
Attached are a couple views of a 1914 engine I redid for a friend in 2012.

I understand it's your car, and you can paint anything any color that makes you happy. You did a nice job of keeping it mostly true to original (generator rather than alternator, orig style distributor, etc.) The original Ford engine green is a nice subdued dark gray-green color- I don't know what you've seen that makes you think it is "lollipop green". But now, whenever you open the hood around Model A guys, you'll be spending your time talking about your choice of engine color rather than rest of the car. Just my opinion for what it's worth.

Those two holes above the steering would be a good place to mount a bracket to carry an oil can.

My guess is that those two holes were used at one time for a starter solenoid relay or some other kind of electrical addition. A round head rubber plug in each one would reduce noise, smell and cold drafts coming from the engine compartment into the passenger area. That's critical at this time of year. Brrrrrrrrrrrr...

I did mine the exact same. I loved the way mine looked all freshly painted. Now it's a little more used looking. Yours looks great.
