Re: Looking for a running engine
A lot of the Model A's currently being driven and enjoyed by their owners might be rejected by a rebuilder if all their flaws were exposed upon dismantling. I drove one for several years that used some oil and would top out at only 55 MPH. It always started and never overheated. When I pulled it for a valve job and rebore the machinist uncovered all of her cracks and other flaws and deemed it "unrebuildable". How many searches for a new engine begin with the scrapping of one that was OK but not perfect?

Re: Looking for a running engine
stitching in competent hands is very effective.
and do not be in a hurry to put valve seats in a B block, unless you want it to crack more

Re: Looking for a running engine
Heck the Model T in my avatar has couple of cracks running out from the valve seats in the deck over the exhaust ports. Because of core shift when the block was made it's too thin to put valve seats and stitch. I've put a lot of miles on it and maybe I don't drive as fast as a Model A I don't go slow nether. What works for me does not mean it will work for the next guy.
