'36 Running Board Trim
In looking at pictures of other 1936 Fords, I have noticed that some have a section of trim across the bottom side of each running board (entire length), but others do not. Mine does not have this trim. What is correct and if it should be on the car, where can this trim be purchased?

They only came on touring sedans. Not on coupes,roadsters or cabrolet. ken ct.

Thanks Ken - I have seen them on pictures of coupes and roadsters, but always thought this was incorrect. Thanks for confirming this for me and saving me a few bucks.

Ken is correct about the models with factory running board strips. If you look at the rear fenders of the no-strip cars you can see the reason why. The rear fenders flare out slightly on these models. This flare-out would cause the factory strips to dig into the fender. To get around this several non-Ford strips came onto the after-market that were like the standard Ford units in appearance but were slightly shorter hence no fender interference. That is what I am using on my '35 coupe.

The trim strips were also standard on 35 and 36 convertible sedans. They were added to give the very deluxe models a little extra "pizazz"
The rear fender profile where it meets the running board should be identical whether its a coupe or sedan fender. The "flare" described by flathead may be the result of numerous body work sessions over the years. |

I am going to respectively disagree with you on the "flare" fender. I have a '35 coupe (I have owned for 55 years; mileage 40174) and there has been zero body work on the fender. I also have a '36 cabriolet. In both cases the fender slightly flares out. Obviously, I can't speak directly to what others are experiencing. Tom |

That a new one on me, have never seen a special factory bubble fender on a 35-36 ford. The bubble even looks different in the two pictures.

My '36 Ford Sedan has the trim. The drivers side clips that hold it have rusted beyond repair. Does anyone know where to get the trim clips ?

dbrock, You might try making your own fasteners. The fasteners on my 35 conv sedan and touring sedan used a stamped metal rectangular washer with a fine thread carriage bolt. Here is an image of the washer taken from page 153 of the Automotive Hardware and Trim Supply Cat.
