Default 36 distr.

I just got a nice 36 2dr. sweet running .....goes,stops everything works a nice body..........great little 36. I left the key on over night and now it won't start. I figured I burnt the points ....I've been able to get new points and condenser. I'm a long time car guy but have never worked on an early car with the dist. in the front of the engine. it looks like I have to take the gen. off and take the dist. out of the engine to replace the points......am I correct ?any tips? yeah I know DON'T LEAVE THE KEY ON........thanks

ACTUALLY IF I CAN FIND SOMEONE IN MY AREA THAT WOULD COME TO MY GARAGE AND DO THE JOB THAT WOULD BE GREAT....CASH PAY ,NO JERKING AROUND,.......I LIVE NEAR ALBANY,NY

You might find this thread helpful: https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79899. Disregard the reference to KenCT, as he has since retired.

In addition check the ignition coil, resistor & switch to make sure they are still good.

you don't have to take the generator off, if you pull the sheet-metal pan just behind the radiator you can get to the bolts off. the key and the slot in the cam are offset, so the dist goes in one way. make sure it is firmly seated to the cam cover before you bolt it down. i second sending it to someone to go through it. the dist needs to be run on a Sun Distributor machine. you may have smoked you coil also Skip Haney can help with the Dist and coil good luck. i would come help you but i live to far away!...PS take your time these old Fords can be a Bugger

Hi Everyone. Leaving the key on isn't the real issue, I don't think. It's leaving the ignition switch on that can harm the points. Right?
