Default How do these syncro inserts work?

Just received my order from Vanpelt of my transmission parts. I ordered new solid syncro inserts, balls, and springs and got these. He's gone for the day but I want to get the car back on the road tomorrow and haven't a clue how these work. Does anyone?

Try this video:

They go around the hub and the lock rings hold them in, one on each side.

So, are the two sets of inserts alternative or are they both used together some way? I'm guessing that I can either use the solid ones with holes in them to replace my old stamped ones that broke and are used with my old balls and springs while the other stamped ones without holes are used without my balls and springs but with the C clips somehow?

Yes. Very good. Shows clearly the reason to always replace the brass syncro rings any time the tranny is opened up. They can be worn out without even looking worn out.

Henry,
My preference are the solid inserts. I guess Mac figured you would reuse
your existing springs and balls.

The plates with no holes work with the C spring rings and are of a different style than the synchro hub that uses the ball bearings with coil springs. The two hubs are different so I don't think they can interchange between types.

The very early 91A transmissions used the spring ring type and then they were discontinued until somewhere in the late 40s. My 49/E51 Merc overdrive transmissions use the spring ring type hub.

Diagram of different early Ford syncro styles. Good information on VanPelt's site:
