Default The "Beast of Turin" returns to Goodwood after 100 years

(Slightly Ford related) I just had to share this video of the fastest car in the world in 1911, the 28 litre Fiat S76, now fully restored for the Goodwood Hillclimb. https://grrc.goodwood.com/festival-o...Soghlw2KlzW.97

It so took me back to my first drive of Old Henry after starting him up after 31 years: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBe8KWTM3qQ and second drive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OImNZD7L6U

The owner, Duncan Pittaway is a great guy, very friendly. I've chatted with him a few times. Hopefully I'll see the Fiat in the flesh sometime soon.

Awesome. Something about those Italian four bangers. I had an Alfa Romeo 2.0L for years. That thing also would back fire like mad. Glad to see that 28L beast lives to race another day.

If the 28 litre Fiat isn't enough try this 42 litre 1500 hp V12 Packard Bentley special "Mavis" car: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZ0u9iRTWyI There's quite a surprise at the end of the video.

Love it ! Hell those flames coming out of the hood and that chain "flapping" away and the sound of that engine is mind blowing. It put a smile on my face......bet those blokes in the modern cars going by must have thought W T F !

That would have to be a Packard Merlin wouldn't it? Sounds like a P51/Spitfire.

The engine is actually from a WWII PT boat. The car is based on a 1930 Bentley 8-litre chassis, although it is highly modified. The car has 24 exhaust pipes, however it only has 12 cylinders. This is because the engine is a twin-port design. The engine produces 2,000 foot-pounds of torque. Chris Williams, the owner, claims that the car has been light-heartedly criticized as the "biggest automotive waste of time, money and engineering expertise ever built".

Lookin' for a Merlin engine in a car? Here's Jay Leno's 27 litre 1930 Bently with one in it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-I3Cl1RICg

Such an oversized body compared to the look of those "small" wheels!
Neat car though.

It would be hard to make the body any smaller because of the height of the engine.

You have to look at these things with a different mindset. 1911 not 1932.

Mart.
