B Carburetor help
I picked up a B carb this weekend at a swap meet, almost paid to much money for it when the GAV driver fell off reveling a partly broken tube, paid a lot less and went on my merry way.
1st question is how do I remove it as it is pressed in, (not supplied that I have seen) so what to use?. I also have some jets that are going to be stubborn to remove, maybe drilled out, any help there would be appreciated. The power tube was also broken but thanks to Vince Falters instructions this maybe the easiest task. The float is the round type and is imploded on one side, very little rust showing internally, possibly from water freezing. The only difference I have found from the carb I am running is the passage way from the float chamber to the well that feeds the main jet was plugged, I had to remove this to get access to the main jet, any ideas on why this would be. Thanks Brian T.

Re: B Carburetor help
Hi Brian,
I rebuilt two B carbs recently using methods from the book "Restoring The Model 'A' and 'B' Carburetors - The 'Rex' Reheis Way" By Gordon Biggar. I highly recommend it. I did not have to remove the GAV housings on mine but the book shows how. New housings can be made from Zenith A housings by removing the threads with a lathe. The power tube is easily replaced, Renner's can supply an exact replacement or you can use brass tubing from a hobby supply shop. I had to buy a special jet tap to clean out some of small threads. You can PM me if you have other questions. |

Re: B Carburetor help
I second Sparky's endorsement of the Rex Reheis Way book, which is available from most of the vendors. It also details some of the differences between the early and later versions of the B-carb, which can be important. Why Zenith went to the pressed-in GAV for the B-carb is a mystery to me - it was not a good idea IMHO.

Re: B Carburetor help --- Update conumdrum.
Thank you Sparky--ursus--and Mark.
Here are a few pics of this plug that passes thru the port where the main jet is removed, it goes thru to the float bowl, this is not this way on the B-carb I am currently using, every thing else is the same, -- the Venturi is 22-MM the jets were numbered, the groove in this plug is toward the float bowl. Maybe this carb is meant for some other application, any ideas ?. Again thanks.
