Default '40 Chrome Question

I have a fairly nice set of '40 bumper wing tips (driver quality) that I would like to have rechromed (show quality). Is it your experience that buying new repro parts is cheaper than rechroming the old parts? I have asked a couple of chrome shops, but they want to inspect the parts before giving an estimate (which I can understand).

Most repo parts fit, but they don't fit as well as the originals. If your wingtips are original and plateable I would have them replated.

My '40 has had a set of the repo bumper tips on it for 30 years, and the fit is good. The chrome has held up very well. My car is always garaged though.

I would have them re-chromed .OEM parts are always better quality.
I know we have to have some reproduction but if a choice is present go for original.

Replate the OEM parts. yes, probably a bit more costly but well worth it.
