Henry Ford\'s Model-A By Oscar Ford
A buddy of mine sent this to me the other day... It's a short video montage of Henry's Model-A Ford set to a song by Bluegrass man Oscar Ford. Appropriately enough, the song was... To read the rest of this blog entry from The Ford Barn, click here. |

It sounds like one of those songs you hear when you walk into an antique shop or old general store. Cool video though.

Re: Henry Ford\'s Model-A By Oscar Ford
What are the wheels on the truck unloading fruit (?) at 1:22? I've never seen those (or fenders on a big A truck).
Who were the men with Mr. Ford at the end of the clip? That music would have been appropriate in "Oh Brother Where Art Thou"!

Re: Henry Ford\'s Model-A By Oscar Ford
My guess of the men in the photo is:
Henry Ford Thomas Edison Will Rogers (I am pretty sure it is not Edsel Ford as mentioned above). What do others think?

Re: Henry Ford\'s Model-A By Oscar Ford
As far as I can tell, the 3 men in the photo are, of course, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and Harvey Firestone.

That's an early 1928 AA Rack Body truck, with 20 inch wire wheels and long running board/aprons and rear fenders. I had a twin to it about 25 years ago. It is restored now and I did get to take it for a ride, good looking truck IMO.

Could that be Harvey Firestone on our right in the picture?

Not being familiar with Harvey Firestone; I took some time to look at images of him.
I concur, that it is Mr. Firestone. My apologies to Will Rogers.

"Who were the men with Mr. Ford at the end of the clip?"
Edsel Ford is the guy on the right signing a book or something. I don't know the guy between Henry and Edsel. Great little clip and musc. I will have to get my tech savy son put the music on a loop to drive people nuts when they come in the barn. |

Re: Henry Ford\'s Model-A By Oscar Ford
Thanks for the kind words, I made the video using some photos I had on hand.
The men standing with Henry Ford are Edsel Ford & Edward Cutler. Cutler was the man responsible for overseeing disassembly & transport of more than a few buildings to Greenfield Village. The song came from Internet Archive. It's a public domain file, so I added photos to the song for my Ford History blog. If anyone would like full size copies of the photos I used, you can contact me on my site. www.vintagefordfacts.blogspot.com PS- Nice Fordbarn site! I'll have to poke around a bit, I have a couple of Model A's I work on when I have time. |

lyrics (was Re: Henry Ford's Model-A By Oscar Ford)
I think these lyrics are about 95% correct. Internet search indicates that the song was also recorded by the "New Lost City Ramblers" in 1968.
------------------------ "Henry Ford's Model A" by Oscar Ford All you folks a' listen to what I say I bought a new Ford called a Model A Ol' John Henry knew his biz When he said I'm a' gonna make a lady out of Liz A fella' bought one just the other day He went to try it out on a new highway When he got to 60, well he lost his nerve and forgot to shut it off when he went around a curve He passed two Packards and a Cadillac too With the speed meter sitting on 72 Just along the road you could hear the fella' shout The darn thing's in second and I can't get it out If your girl don't love you, let me tell you what to do Find you a Ford that's big enough for two When you give one a ride, she'll hit you with a smile And she'll want to stop and kiss you every time you go a mile Now if you're going to Heaven, I will give you all a tip Drive an old Ford, cause you'll probably make the trip But if you're going to torment, drive a Model A For you'll out-run the devil, and you're bound to get away |
