Temper temper- the holes are not big enough for water connections. They use to run model a's on diesel and other petroleum products after they started them on gasoline. I would not try to replace whatever item was there. This is a great forum and you should try to develop a sense of humor. Maybe the owner got a new electric drill and wanted to try it out. Electric drills did not show up on the market until the 50's.

Very good way to never get another question answered. It could have been anything from an oil can holder to a mack truck battery, any guess is as good as one you might have. One thing for sure, those holes SHOULD NOT BE THERE! Any reason for them was not an accessory sanctioned by Ford or any other reason except for the previous owners own eccentricities and/or preferences.

Maybe with that attitude YOU need to be the one who goes back to your VW forum.

Very possibly could have been a battery holder. I removed one from my cabbie and this is what the holes looked like. See the resemblance?

I don't know what it is ,was, or could have been

. Does it really matter After over 1,400 views and still no conclusion, its time to move on

. It could have been anything.

What a great way to welcome newcomers to the site. I had asked my 93 year old neighbor Violet what she thought it was when first purchased the car and she gave a better answer than MOST of those mentioned above. Upper holes for the jack mount and the lower for the engine crank handle as she remembers seeing back in the day. She must be have a better understanding of cars than most people, her answer wasn't smart-assed!

What a great way to introduce yourself " Hi I am the new jerk and you will answer my questions even though I have pre-concieved notions about the answers and will never believe any answer you could give ANYWAY". Why didn't you ask Violet in the first case and you could have done 2 things. You could have kept yourself from the hassle of posters TRYING to help and us from having to listen to you berate our answers when they were as good as any guess you OR Violet could possibly have!

I suggest you dont ask any more questions here on the "FordBarn" Just ask your neighbor.. You will have the best looking CAR & FIRE WALL @ the next show...

You are something else!

You ask for ideas as to what might have been mounted there, then decide you don't like any of the answers and give me a smart assed reply when I suggested they look like bullet holes. Well, I've seen lots of bullet holes in cars and the picture in #13 shows a rusty looking firewall with green paint thrown over the rust. This would indicate the body sat out in the weather for many years, and that's when the people often shoot holes in them. Unless someone here saw the car 60 years ago or talked to the owner from that time period, who knows exactly what was mounted there. BTW, the holes in #41 look very clean and I can see they are drilled. The holes in #13 looked jagged, just like a bullet would leave.

So, what's your problem. Fill the holes and move on.

There are a lot of Model A experts on this forum and they are almost always helpful. If this had been an attachment of any possible known Model A accessory you would have had an authoritative answer quickly. You did not get such an answer, therefore I have to assume it is a one-of-a-kind attachment where only the installer knows the truth.
Give it up. It could be anything. There is no point in "going back to the correct time period."
