Question freeze plug replacement on 1924

Please! Any tips on the replacement of the center plug, has quite a bit of rust in outer ring , the plug itself is long gone and I have never had this come up befor and don't want to mess up which I seem to be very good at. Thanks in advance for any tips!! jim

Clean it up with a wire wheel or wire brush until it is shiny. Some guys use epoxy and then seat them in, others just seat in the plug.

I seem to remember old engines with nickels used as plugs. I'm sure someone will have a good answer for you.

Thank you both very much, I am scared of todays nickels, I have no idea what the govt. is making them out of now so guess I will go with wire brush and plug, thanks again for your time and knowledge Ford barns people are the best!! jim

You can get Buffalo nickels with the date worn off for 25 cents at most coin shops. Cheaper than a steel freeze plug and better too.

I use nickels and JB weld as a sealer.

I use the brass plugs with a little permatex. Make sure the lip is good and clean. You might as well replace the other 2 while you are at it. Put it in dome out, then tap the center to spread and seal in the hole.
