Default Replacing exterior handles, 1935 Fordor

I bought some replacement handles, but forgot the trick to align the internals to get the square rod to slip in. Any suggestions, please?
Thanks,
RB

The fixed square on the latch requires you to notch out the bar on the handle.
Just grind off the square corners 1 1/8 from the end of the shaft and 1 5/8.
