Default AR BRAKES and EARLY 1928 Brakes

When did Ford change from the from the real early non adjustable brake rods to the adjustable ones? Two AR's in the shop one with one style one with the other. Bob

The non adjustable brake rods are mid 28. The earlier brake rods were adjustable, just a slightly smaller dia. The cross shafts had 3 distinct variations. I do not have my JS in front of me so I hope someone who does or know the changes by heart post that info to help you. Rod

Thanks Rowdy, I would have thought the non adjustable would have been earlier. Must have been a lot of retooling to get things right early on. Bob

When the separate parking brake band was added about in May 1928, then the brake rods also changed to non-adjustable, and were used until November 1928, when the adjustable rods and one piece cross shaft were introduced.

Thanks Tom, both cars in the shop are left hand parking brake and neither have the separate parking brake shoes in the rear. Bob

When the first non adjustable brake rods cam into being about February 1928, Ford dropped the punched out stops at the rear of the center cross member for the floating brake system; when it was determined the stops were needed a modification bracket was issued to accompany this problem; the only place it shows up are in the Fargo, North Dakota 1928 Service Letters. Ford at this time started re-punching out the stops in the cross member on the new frames.
