Ok , thanks for all your input. I re-figured the cost... "IF" i did not get credit for the 2 carb's. and i forgot to minus the credit of $200.00 sent to start the job it would of come to ,,,ready for this $1,209.00 and change.There was 21.25 hours spent right at $50.00 per hour... that's $1050.00 alone without all the other items. Also keep in mind i had all the cad. plated items done , and was used ...ALL of them . thanks ,now its time for a couple... its getting closer to Friday...

The hours billed seem excessive no matter what was done to a simple carb that the model A has. Chasing threads and milling flanges included. Was he billing for the time it took the paint to cure?

Yeah! Think what it would if it was a Carter or Holley 4 BBL. You could buy a whole car for less! Maybe he only does one or two carbs a year.

Makes my carb rebuilds seem like pocket change.

that is really high ! first off $50.00 per hour. sometimes we spend 1-2 hours to remove a broken stud on a customers car, would never charge them $100.00 on these old cars somethings just take a little longer.

Um. My VW stealership charges $110 per hour now. Granted a different level of technical requirement (intimidation that is), but more importantly a different level of consumer NEED. (Gotta get that car back to earn money to pay the bill - instead of "I think I'll drive the Model A to get Ice cream tonight.")

A carb that is held together with one bolt is not worth paying over $600.00 to rebuild!!

It is easy to find links on line that tell you step by step how to rebuild a model a carb. It is probably the most basic carb you can work on. I am just a shade tree cobbler but my engine runs great and I can't imagine how anyone can justify such high prices for a rebuild. Plus, knowing the internals of your carb makes it easier to diagnose problems later on.

Its way to expensive for me but I figure that Pete was more concerned about show quality than price.

We live about two or three miles apart, in Perkasie, Pa. I wanted to see where and how the guy lives. Sure enough, over in McMansionville! Not that I'd let that influence my use or non use of his services all other things being equal. More power to him if he can run a lucrative business from his cellar or a steel barn, or where ever it's OK by me. If he can do it, I can do it too!

In some car shows, politics like who performed certain services on the vehicle will mean the difference in gaining or losing points .

WOW, would love to see how it compares to a Berts rebuild.

Based on Mitch's post a year ago for the service;

-1-A LA Carte-$75/$150. This is for a knowledgeable person who only needs help repairing one or two damaged parts, e.g. fuel intake surface, jet threads, etc. Price includes restoring one or 2 parts plus postage & insurance.
-2-MAJOR REPAIR-approx. $300/$400. Based on hours of work including static, dynamic, and cool down testing. Price includes postage and insurance.
-3-COMPLETE REMANUFACTURING-approx. $650. Price includes hours of work, all testing, postage and insurance.

So now a reman is double from last year and you had all the parts!?

Mike , total was in cash $685.11 and i had All parts were Cad. plated that needed to be used ,,and 2 original carb's exchange,,,A bill was sent showing that it would of come to a grand total of $1,235,11 if you add all the service. As Machine girl said [1 or 2 hours for a broken stud at $50.00 per hour you would never charge $100.00 ]. He took off $500.00 for his labor [ 21.50 hours at $50.00] would of come to $1050.00
