On what models did Ford use the '32 Heavy axle?
Was this a truck axle?

Supposed to be on pick-up trucks and commercial vehicles like station wagons, sedan deliveries, incomplete chassies, etc. But apparently not avaliable over the counter as a replacement. If you needed a new one you got the standard 32-36 B3010 axle.

This is a friend of mine's '32 pickup and I assume a "heavy" axle.
Would my assumption be correct?
Was it just thicker or wider as well?

All the '32s came with the "heavy" axle, both passenger and light truck. Used to see a few of the later axles on deuces in junkyards; but they were probably just service replacements.

No such thing as a heavy axle.Someone made that up.All 32 pass car and pickups are the same.33-36 will interchange as many probably were.

"With all respect, if you are referring to Deuce lover's comment regarding the coined phrase "heavy", he is 100% correct. There was only one front axle used in the production of the '32 Ford passenger cars and commercial vehicles worldwide, not some "light ones" and some "heavy ones". The ones supplied for service after 1933 were no longer the original '32 version, but rather the '34 version, which is functionally identical and yes, lighter in weight. That some of these lighter replacement axles show up on surviving '32s does not mean that they were "as-built", but rather "as survived"."

Just one year, and the same "heavy axle" was used on all the 32 vehicles, passenger and commercial. So technically there is no heavy axle for the 32.

This will crop up again, sure as the sun rising in the east and setting in the west; just peruse the swap meet section of this site.

What should we call those '33 front axles that have a "heavy" center section between the spring perches (like a '32 axle) and "light" ends from the spring perches outward (like all post-'32 axles)? "Middleweights"?

Something I read suggested that they are "Canadian"...anyone know if that seems likely?

I used to think that too seeing several of them on some Canadian '33s and I bought a NOS one at a Canadian swap meet, but then I bought a pretty unmolested '33 coupe built in Canada that did not have one and I also started to see them showing up on '33s built in the U.S., so based on a small sample, it seems less than conclusive.
