Today my neighbor came over, he gets a kick out of working on old cars and we went after the steering box. It was froze up tight. Got it removed and pulled the steering wheel. The ignition lock was so stuck that we had to drill it out to undo the lock on the shaft. We salvaged the entire column drop, which is excellent and the box is smooth and hardly any play. Finally a good part from the donor. I was not able to salvage the steering tube, it was rusted in half at the column drop and the bell had bad rot. If anybody has a good one, let me know.

Truck is pretty much stripped down. Sold the firewall, doors and bed so got some money back. I stripped the doors of all the hardware/mechanisms for the good doors. Frame is one of the worst I have seen. Good thing the other frame is nice. Going to pick up the good chassis, bed and can tomorrow. Got a nice set of original running boards, a nice steering wheel, column tube and inner front fenders. This is starting to get fun.

Fun project. I think the fenders on the one bed are 39ish International C. I had a 35 and 36 I was going to build but plans changed and I sold off the nice 35 cab and frame with juice brakes. I can't give away the rusty 36 cab and cobbled up frame so I'm sending the door tops and a strip from the cab to a guy doing a chop. Still has a nice firewall I need to extract.
Slight difference in 35 and 36 beds as the 36 has a little brace above the tire that the 35 don't have. I have a 35 pickup box trailer, 2 36 boxes and a set of 37 bed sides. One set of needy but savable fenders. I plan to revise the trailer to use. None of mine have any decent rear stake pockets.

That little brace above the fender was added, in mid May 35 I think, when
Ford started making the bed side panels out of thinner metal.

Yes, most any of the suppliers will have them. Originals are available at swap meets and on eBay.

Better get those rear fenders off and into a bank vault someplace quick ! Your sitting on some serious "gold" man ! I went to the Pomona swap meet a lot of years back and there were three in pretty good shape on the ground when we entered. Should have grabbed them up when I had a chance ?

I would have them in a vault if they were steel!! Those are fiberglass, only hopefully until I can find some steel ones. My fronts are repairable. My rears are only good as patches.

Managed to save the column drop. I bought an almost nos ignition switch because I had to drill the original out. Even with the pin removed, it was not coming out. I was able to save everything else. Only problem was my new ignition cylinder was too tall. A few barners and I came to the conclusion that somebody had ground down the area for an aftermarket cylinder. Welded it back up and it looks great and is functional.

More adventures with the 35 today. Pulled the headlights so I could get to the fender braces. I set the headlight stands down and noticed they are different from each other? What do I have here? Clearly 35 and 36 were different. The fender braces are great but also rusted out at the headlight mount. Can't believe how much rust repair this old girl is going to need. If anybody out there has a headlight stand that matches one of mine, shoot me a pm.

Vanspeed (Jeff?), I have not seen mention of this in any of the posts on this thread, but it may have been mentioned on another thread, or you may already know this anyway....but....

All the pictures I see, showing the front of the engine in the donor truck, tell me that you have a '37 or early '38, 21 stud block, using block off plates where the '37-'48 style waterpumps would normally bolt on. The earlier wp in head type cylinder heads will bolt right on this engine and make it look very much like you have a '36 or earlier 21 stud engine. IMO, this '37 block is better than the earlier blocks (not considering the 36LB), because it has insert mains, and thicker cylinder walls, which will allow a larger bore, probably up to 239ci.
I love seeing these threads where someone rescues old iron like this and brings it back to life. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
I drug one home similar to this one ~ 10 years ago, but in worse condition than yours. I salvaged what I could, sold off the parts I didn't want/need, and hauled what was left to the scrap yard. If I can find some pictures, I will post them here.

Thanks for that info. I would love to save the engine but I want a runner so I am looking for a replacement. I hope that this makes people motivated and save whatever they can. I appreciate all your support on this project. Got the rest of the old chassis torn down and what do not need is up for sale. I did not realize how much 35 pickup parts cost, I have spent a fortune already! I now have a bare chassis that I am using to transfer the correct holes for body mounting/brackets to the 39 chassis. I have a ton of work ahead of me but it will be worth it.
