early 46 bumpers
I ran across this artical in another publication. I had never hear of this before. Ol Henry would do anything to sell a car. It seems the chrome wasn't in great supply so he delivered the first 46 cars with wooden bumpers, to be replaced by the dealers at a later time. Try to pull that off today.

i also heard no spare tire was supplyed only the rim due to rubber being in short supply due to war

My dad bought a 46 Hudson, Dealer installed 2/4 bumpers,rim for spare,norear bottom cushion,Rode inback with my sister from cal.to montana,north dakota on cushions from our couch, Didnt get to see a whole lot but the top of tree"s now and then.

My Dad got one of the 46's with full 2X8 wood bumpers. Also none of the exterior chrome or stainless was on the body. Couple of month later it all came in and the dealer installed it. It was a 46 Deluxe 2 door. We kept the car for 10 or 12 years and I learned to drive in that 46. Tom...
