Zip it rack
Does anyone have a picture of a Zip-It trunk rack in it's extended position & how far does it extend past the spare?
I need one to haul my 75 lb. 3 wheel "Caddy" mobility scooter. Bill W.

Re: Zip it rack
Bill, would it be easier to install a 2 inch receiver under the spare, and then get a small shelf with ramps to drive on and off?

Re: Zip it rack
The Zip A Rack extends about 16". The suggestion for the 2" receiver and a bracket that holds a shelf might be easier to come up with. We put a receiver on the sedan to tow the Mullins trailer and it is pretty easy to make and only cost about $100 or so to make.

John,
Was this trailer hitch featured in your magazine? If so, what issue? |

Re: Zip it rack
Google "single wheel trailers". They're great behind an A. No backing problem, no sight problem, little weight on car. I use a small one and will have another for sale @ C4J 25.(Just avoid straddling road kill).

Re: Zip it rack
we have two and i also really like them. the only time they are difficult to tow is when you're in areas where the road is worn down and there is that "hump" in the middle of the road. the single tire rides on that hump, but is consistently wanting to go down in the dips.

Re: Zip it rack
I've seen some single wheel trailers that have one or two shock obsorbers on the wheel to control the side to side swivel.

Re: Zip it rack
We have been interested in making the "Zip It Rack" for some time, but have not seen one available to purchase to copy to make more. Anyone have one to sell, that we can use as a sample? I always liked that design, but nobody is currently making one. Anyone have one I can buy?

Re: Zip it rack
Bill-If you go the 2-inch receiver route, I've got the 'shelf' unit that plugs into it.
You can have it. Bought at a local yard sale, now it's just collecting dust in the barn. I get to Fresno from time-to-time too. If not, good luck with the project. Bruce |

Re: Zip it rack
http://generaldevices.thomasnet.com/...om-mount-slide?
There is a USA manufacturer called General Devices in Indianapolis that makes heavy duty roller bearing slides. They were originally used for the computer electronic rack enclosures but they are so good the fire truck manufacturers are using them for their pull out shelves and steps. One or two of their slides can be used to easily fabricate exactly what you need. Be prepared for price sticker shock though. |

Re: Zip it rack
I bought one of the zip rack on ebay a couple of years ago, its on my car. But before I installed it I took dimensions and made Auto Cad drawings. I havent completely dimension it but it is drawn to scale. does this help?

Re: Zip it rack
That 75# cart and the extra weight of the carrier centered out maybe 5" beyond the rear of the frame is a lot of weight, supported only by two brackets to the body.
The trailer is better. |

Re: Zip it rack
I don't see where it's going to be any worse than 2 225 lb people in the back seat or rumble seat ? ? ?
