Default 40 ford shift rod clip in steering column

In the top of the steering column, the shift lever rod has a clip to hold the rod up. The clip resembles a small horse shoe style clip. I don't have the clip, does anyone know the correct name for the clip, where I can get one or some other clip to substitute.

Thanks, Tony

The same clip is used on the rear parking brake levers. They were used up through the 1980's and perhaps even later on cars with rear drum brakes. I'd suggest you go to Napa and ask... they will know what you mean. If not, ask a counter person over the age of 30.

To ad to Kube's suggestion, you might have to grind or file the new one down to the proper thickness but this has worked for me. RPM

The clip looks like the "C" clips you see here. It's shaped like a horseshoe

If you can't find one locally, I think I have a box of them in my garage it may take me a day or two to dig through my old stock. I think they were made by Pioneer or Auveco. I looked on line through the Auveco catalog and I don't see them in there. I don't know if they are still made. I think Kube is talking about a lever pin retainer they are in the Mac catalog as Part # 91A-2106. The clip I am thinking about is made from sheet metal and is locked in by spring action. I could not find an illistration on line.

91A 2106 is available at any Ford dealer. It's a soft metal so it can be squeezed together. THey aren't used as much today, but were on all rear brake shoes to hold the E brake cable lever to the shoe. Stop at your local Ford dealer and ask. They've got them and they're cheap. I'll bet I sold a billion of them over my career at Ford.

The 91A-2106 clip is not the same clip. I am not saying it wont work, but not the same even has a different part number. It is round in shape and has a cut-out on one side all the way to the i.d.

You can get different size "E" clips at your local Ace Hardware or auto parts store.

What's the part number of the clip? If you have it, go to www.partsvoice.com and see if anyone has it. Partsvoice lists alot of NOS parts and places that have the stuff. I use it all the time. We used it at thge Ford dealer for alot newer stuff also.

I was missing one on my 47 also. I ended up using a washer and a piece of safety wire to hold it in place, it works, but I'm going to rebuild the column this winter and fix it right.
So if anyone's still got more of those clips I could use one as well.
