I have come across a lot of frame members that were bolted in and all were just done as a quick replacement. Frame members should always be riveted as factory but not everybody does it this way. Make should they used high grade bolts and lock washers. Me........I like to re-rivet them in that way I know they will stay put.
Cheers!

On my 71 F100 I found out that the transmission shop cut the rivets out of a cross member and bolted it back in after the job was done. That wasn't the only "shortcut" they took, and needless to say, I haven't taken them any work since then. I was so torqued over the job they did, I paid them in $1 bills, all 832 of them. They were lucky I didn't have that many pennies.

I bolted my front cross member in my 29 frame back in the 50's. It is still there in my huckster. I know it is not correct but for now, it works for my driver.

I would be sure to use a bolt that had smooth shank without threads to bear on the sheet metal holes and use nylon stop nuts over plain washers -not lockwashers. If its good enough for an airplane its good enough for a driver.
