Default Original Factory front floor mat backing?

I have a question about the original factor Front floor mats that were put down. Was a fiber material put down before the rubber mat? My front mao had a fiber layer brown/yell under the mat..Looks just like the fiber material used as the base layer for the firewall insulation?

The mat on my '41 has an insulation material which is glued to the mat then installed. When ordered/shipped they come separate.

Looked in the book, can't find anything about insulation under mat.
I think my from mat was NOT original Because it was Black. Yet under the seat sides are two thin pieces of Taupe color Mat. Read floor also had Dissolving Taupe mat and not insulation.
That insulation under the front mate looked so similar to the firewall insulation I just thought that maybe it was original and they added the black mat later over the floor padding?? I currently have a new Taupe mat down against the metal floor.

We need a real detective to figure this one out!

Are we supposed to guess what year?

The material under your mat is most likely M-5145 "JUTE". It was cemented to the mat. Early 1935 vehicles had no such material. Here is a typical mat cross section taken from a later 1935 front floor mat.

The 33/34 Ford book explains the mats on page 6-4. It appears that most of these cars had an insulated mat.

My personal experience years ago in previous car is that the mating burns. My (young at the time) daughter will attest to the amount of smoke generated inside the car. Service Station attendant chased me away when I tried to pull into his place. My bad > hole in floor panel above exhaust pipe.
