Final leg, hopefully
I am leaving this morning on what should be the finish in my quest to drive my '50 Ford in all lower 48 states. We are heading to Fl via Al, Ms and La into the Fl panhandle and will return via I-95, I-26, I-77 and I-81. Plan to see Vic while in Fl and maybe all those women that have been riding with JM.

I hope you are taking your V8 club roster with you in case of any trouble. Have a safe and fun trip. Pictures would be nice. Lawson

Cecil, based on that Utah picture you posted, it looks like you took the long way to get to Florida . Make sure Vic signs you off on your award for completing the last State of the 48 when you get to Florida .

Cecil, If you get down near Punta Gorda give me a call. 1-941-637-1813 night or early morning. Skip at the shop 1-941-637-6698 Mornings. I'll show you how the fuel return line works. G.M.

Cecil,
Good luck on your trip! What's next, Alaska? Juneau is less than 3,600 from your front door. Ken

Ken; To my knowledge, you can't drive to Juneau, Alaska. Boat or plane is the only way.

Oops. Shows how familiar I am with Alaska. Maybe we need to recommend Anchorage.

George. I would love to get down and see that and your collection but there aren't enough days available. Too much work to do at our property here in Floral City.

Re: Final leg, hopefully
Never leave home without it. Lice after I get home. My circuitous route netted me 1600 miles and the oil dropped 1/8 " with over 20 mpg.

Re: Final leg, hopefully
DARN IT! You were within a hour of my house - I am the loser on this one! HOWEVER: Look forward to seeing you at Gettysburg in June.........We are already planning a dinner date with Pat and Candy, maybe we can pull Redneck and his bride into the mix..........and anyone else interested - maybe 'do' a mini-Barn meet/dinner??

Re: Final leg, hopefully
We arrived at home last eve around 6pm, traveled just under 2700 miles, used less than i qt of oil and had no trouble, except some lack of fuel symptoms on the first day, but never again. I haven't calculated my final MPG yet, but last time I did, it was just a fraction under 20 mpg with one tank being near 21, cruising at 65-68 mph. I have achieved my goal to drive in all 48 states with this car along with Quebec. I was talking with my friend in Orlando about my achievement and he reminded me that a small percentage of all cars built rarely achieve this record. These cars were made to be driven. I'm happy.

Re: Final leg, hopefully
Pat,
The people you meet at a fuel stop, a parking lot, as they pass and even along the highway when stopped for a state line pic is more than worth the effort layed out. |

Re: Final leg, hopefully
I keep thinking there ought to be a "Maximum Drivers" social group for us guys that really drive the wheels off of our cars.
Congratulations on reaching your goal. I did the same with my 10 kids in a 15 passenger van pulling a trailer plus Alaska. Not the same as the road trips I now take in Old Henry but still fun just the same. As they said in the movie "Cars" - "people didn't used to drive to make good time, they drove to have a good time." Keep on trucking (or carring, whatever).
