Default Shocks - after market

Good morning all,
I have two shocks opened up and cleaned. There has been some reference to sealing the stator arms to the cylindrical body using solder. One of the shocks has solder that prevents cleaning fluid from passing from one chamber to the other. The other shock does not have solder and fluid passes from chamber to chamber. Any tips on replacing the solder - has anyone pre-heated the whole shock prior the soldering?
Thanks for your advice.

There was not solder in the shocks, Lead balls which may have melted when heated to get them open. There are also check valves in these shocks which allow the fluid to flow in one direction.
