Default Running straight water

I’m thinking about running straight water in my ford radiator. Anyone had any experience with a good rust prevented to add to the water to prevent rust in the block.

Use modern antifreeze that is what is for 500,000,000 cars on road the can't be wrong kind of a stat that is hard to dispute. My2¢ lets hear more.

I would mix 50/50 water and antifreeze and I use distilled water.

This has been covered fairly extensively on this forum. You could try doing a search using the search feature and instantly have quite a bit of feed back and info available to you.

I run straight water in my '48 F-1 with a warmed up '50 Merc. I use Mac's 1300 from NAPA.

I have distilled water and water wetter in my v12 Lincoln Hot Rod and with the electric fan will reach 160 in Phoenix at 110 degrees.

I think antifreeze would be the best, but a oldtimer once told me that water and a cup full of automatic transmission fluid in the radiator would make a engine run cool and keep it clean.. Is this true?

Water and oil don't mix. Antifreeze lubricates waterpumps, don't forget that.

The problem I had with my 39 was with the anti freeze foaming and overflowing out of the radiator. Mine is an open system with no pressure. I remember reading a V-8 Times article about this probably 20 years ago or so.

Back to the ORIGINAL question about corrosion inhibitors...NOT ant-freeze...

I like to use MACS 1300 in all my cooling systems. It is available at most NAPA stores. It is a rust inhibitor, water pump lube and cooling system conditioner.

When I worked in machine shop we had barrels of water souable oil, we mixed it with the water in or crank grinders and flywheel machines, i used to use about 4 oz in my radiator, it turns the water milky. I think it's great if you don't want to us anti frezze. Walt

I've used Red Line Water Wetter for the past 5 years and it seems to be doing a good job of preventing corrosion. I change it once a year.

Usually the first indication that you have made the wrong decision regarding antifreeze vs water is the thermostat housings are broken and kind of squeezed outward on a cold morning... ..B.

Why the hatred of anti-freeze?
Anti-freeze is also a corrosion inhibitor and summer coolant.
Every single motor manufacturer in the world puts it in every single car they sell. Millions of motorists worldwide drive their cars all year round without a second thought for what goes on in their engine.
If you can't just fill with water mixed with the correct ratio of a good quality anti-freeze/summer coolant there must be something wrong with your setup. Millions and millions of people use it every day. Why would someone want to NOT use it?
Auto trans fluid in the rad? Not a good idea. Plain water - Plain stupid.

Sorry, but why constantly try and come up with a better idea when the best idea is what is staring you in the face.

Nice clean water. Good quality anti-freeze/summer coolant.
Put it in. Forget about it.
Find something else to tinker with.

Mart.

Isn't it something that anyone would even think about an alternative and also believe that it isn't any good.Is it because they think these old flat motors are something out of the norm in internal combustion engines, even Henry would put it in there. If it isn't broke stop reinventing the wheel.
They need to sign up for the flat earth society.
