Default MTFCA tour

I have been toying with the idea of giving the 2017 mtfca tour in Montana a try. It is pretty close and I had a great time on the driving tour of the Early V8 ford club tour a couple years ago with my '33. I was a bit under powered compared to the "big boys" but it was a wonderful week.

I haven't ever been on a "T" tour and am a bit concerned about the distances and some of the descents could be a bit steep.

I do not have a ruckstell as my runabout is really light and have therefore not installed AC brakes.

Does it sound risky to do an extended tour without backup brakes?

By the way, is anyone else planning on going?

I have been on many Model T tours. They are a blast! Never been to Montana, too far. If I were you I would install Rocky Mt. Brakes. If anything fails between the engine and the hub cap, you will have no brakes at all. The T's with the big brake drums have some emergency brake capabilities, but the e brake is jus that, not a service brake.

I think I am afraid for just that reason. I was going down a hill slowly approach a red light where there were 4 lanes of traffic plus turning lanes. I put on my brakes and the pinon gear broke in two and wrapped around the ring gear pushing it through the housing. I was free wheeling from then on. I luckily had a break in traffic, turned right and rolled downhill for 3 blocks before coming to a stop. I was terrified and my 78 year old uncle's eyes were the size of saucers.

It was several hours before my brother-in-law asked me why i didn't put on the emergency brake.....

In the panic, I hadn't even considered that.

Google "mtfca: AC brakes". There are several options to install outside brakes.
