Default Off/On Switch between Battery and Starter

How many of you have an off/on switch between the battery and the starter?

While at an electrical seminar during the week long national meet at Lexington, KY., one member reported a serious fire that he witnessed caused by some form of problem of wiring at the starter negative (6v.) point on the top of the starter.
Maybe your question ties to this exposure? It sounded pretty serious.
The seminar was extremely informative and well worth attendance. The club
surely put a lot of time and serious effort into the week long event. They deserve credit for pulling this event together.

Ground cable to switch, ground cable out of switch to frame, switch mounted on seat riser, just behind lower left leg.

I have one on my '29 Tudor that I mounted on the cross member just under the seat. It's on the positive ground cable.

Yup, I install them on every build I do.

I use these. Easy to unscrew, the Green cap switch disconnects the power and I can put it in my pocket.

I have the heavy duty brass cut-off switch above the starter button so I can flick it off or on with my foot any time. Yes, it leaves the path between the battery post and the switch unprotected, but the ease of use outweighs the possibility of a short on that distance.

Ok, I will be the odd ball. No, I never have had one in the last 43 years.

Do you think it would be easier if you started a thread with a poll asking yes or no?

So if they're SO important, why didn't pre-solid state cars have them? If your battery to starter cable is routed properly & secured where necessary, & you have a main feed fuse or a circuit breaker, what's the chance of a disastrous short? I feel that a cut off switch is just something else to possibly fail. Bill W.

Careful Bill, A's came with neither fuses or cut out switches.

All three of my cars have the switch between the battery and the starter mounted next to the engine mount. This way I remember to check my oil when I turn on the battery.
