flathead heat sending units
I have several flathead heat sending units and would like to identify them for the years they originated. Any Barners know of a list that shows the matching numbers? Thanks.

Re: flathead heat sending units
The single terminal type is the 8A-10884 and the double terminal is the 8A-10990. If you plan to sell them, I suggest testing them first to make sure they work. We had a handful of NOS senders that were no good. The brand new senders work ok, so if they don't test good, pitch 'em.

Re: flathead heat sending units
This may help. Info. is from 1949-51 Vol.2 of Mercury Overhaul Manual. I bet these interchange with FORD to some degree.

Re: flathead heat sending units
Not interested in selling them. Simply want to match up a pair for a 1946 59AB engine that is in going in my 40PU.
Prior to using, is their a preliminary resistance or continuity check that would spot a bad sender? Thanks. |

Re: flathead heat sending units
Kent the double terminal one would be same as an on off switch. 0 ohms when cold, and open cirrcuit when hot.
I can't tell you about the single termial one. Did I read somewhere that there are two different single terminal ones? BTW, 19Fordy's posted pictures cover the test procedure. Thanks 19Fordy! Last edited by Bluebell; 08-31-2013 at 08:41 PM. |
