Front Disc Brakes
Does anybody make a front disc kit (Hydraulic of course) that fits stock Model A spindles? Thanks

Re: Front Disc Brakes
They should be at the hot-rod vendors.

Re: Front Disc Brakes
There are no brackets for the early spindles that I'm aware of, they are made for the larger '37-'48 bolt pattern.

Re: Front Disc Brakes
As I am beginning to understand it I would first need to switch to the 37-48 spindles and then get a disc brake kit to go with them? Would i be able to maintain the 5 x 5 1/2 bolt pattern?

Re: Front Disc Brakes
In my opinion a better solution would be to design and make brackets to fit the disk brakes to the Model A spindle. Not everyone can do this. The way to go about it is to buy the parts then design the brackets. It may take making a new disk or modifying the disks that are available, or maybe an adapter. Look at Wilwood racing calipers and disks. Someone did this for the Model T after a friend of his died because of failed brakes.
Start here: https://www.wilwood.com/BrakeKits/Br...+A&option=Base The Model T brakes can be seen here: https://www.modeltford.com/item/2565.aspx That may be a good place to start.

Re: Front Disc Brakes
Mike Hoskins makes a well-engineered set of disc brakes for Model A's, called Hoss Brakes. He has a set on his '31 coupe and has gone into production. He has his rotors cast and I can't tell you for sure how the rest is done, but they're ingenious. His phone number is 816 352 7097. Tell him Jim Speedster sent you.

Re: Front Disc Brakes
After I got the spindles and hubs modified to later model I used a Wilwood kit that bolted on with no additional mods.

Re: Front Disc Brakes
A friend put disc brakes on the front of his Model A. The brake dust ended up all over the wire wheels and he regretted doing it.

Re: Front Disc Brakes
I've had a couple great conversations with Mike and seen some pictures. His set ups look and sound really good and I'll be seriously looking at it when he has the parts and the kits assembled.
