Default Headlites

I was going to paint my 1939 PU fenders black, but decided to paint them the same color as the cab. Should the headlite buckets be painted body color or are they black?

We just painted our 39 pickup Jefferson Blue. We also painted the fenders Jefferson Blue. Our headlight buckets are body color as well, Jefferson Blue. Only our running boards are black. Just a thought for you. I think if you paint the fenders body color painting the headlight buckets to match looks good.

Thanks, I was thinking the same, but want it to be correct, not looking good.

On commercial vehicles like the pickups, paint schemes can vary greatly since they were painted virtually any color combination by their owners. For example, our 39 pickup was used as an Amoco service station truck and painted orange and white with the big Amoco shield and torch on the side. It had a big push bumper on the front and I found a ticket for the 13th NHRA Nationals between the seat covers.

Man I haven't seen an Amoco station in many years. They were all Standard Stations when I was younger but changed over to Amoco in the 70s.

A fellow should get the Early Ford V8 Club book on the 38/39 to get the best info. I imagine they could be ordered with or without black fenders in that time frame.

The early Ford V 8 book only covers cars. There is some information on the chassis that is the same for passenger and commercial. We need a pickup book!

Don't hold your breath with National's attitude on commercial vehicles.
