Re: Switching to two carbs
As always, "superreal" has spot on info for sensible performance improvements to a flathead engine.
True, I am running dual carbs, Offie Super manifold w/ 97's on the 59AB engine in my '36. However, I had a 1953 Classic speed boat for many years that had a "built" 8CM V8 that had a AFB 4 barrel carb and a Mallory ignition. The boat was our family ski boat for almost ten years. I taught all five of my kids, and several of their friends to ski with that boat. Never had any issues with the 4 barrel carb, which I can't say about the dual carbs in the '36. Dual carbs can be very temperamental.. I carry four sets of jets and the proper carb tools in the glove box of the '36 so that I can adjust the richness of carbs for different elevations/heat.

Re: Switching to two carbs
I think you said you hav two 94's, why not use them. You can keep the throttle linkage on the passenger side

Re: Switching to two carbs
two 97's is the way to go, I have three cars with dual carbs (my 34 has a slingshot). Remove the hand throttle linkage off the shaft on passenger side and use two arms and a piece of rod stock the right OD to tie them together. I fine .41-.43 jets and .71 power valves work best, at my altitude. Sync them and off you go. Uncle Max can supply you with everything you need except to modify your original throttle shaft from firewall to carb

Re: Switching to two carbs
I love your 34 Chris, and your right about Uncle Max, he rebuilt my original 97, and it is outstanding. Making up the linkage should not be a problem, I want it to look as original as possible, and dual carbs is just how I see a flathead...unless it has three

Re: Switching to two carbs
I know this is an older post. Here is how I handled my throttle linkage setup, using the original Ford linkage and a cable linkage. I had some issues trying to get full throttle travel and had tried a few different things before settling on this configuration.
