Re: Front brake drums
I've had my 40 sedan less than a year and would like to hear the thoughts behind making the change to the Lincoln style drums/backing plates. What are the improvements when you make the switch? I can guess one is ease of adjusting the shoes since almost any system would be easier than the multiple steps involved with the stock system. At least IMHO the stock setup is complicated.

Re: Front brake drums
HDowse
Lincoln style brakes ( AKA Bendix style ) are self energizing. The shoes are anchored at the top and the movement at the bottom allows the front shoe to put pressure on the back ( larger ) shoe. This makes pressure at the pedal more comfortable.

Re: Front brake drums
I have MT car brakes on 2 cars. They give strong stopping. I use Mustang drum-drum 1" master cylinder. I tried a stock master cylinder and pedal pressure was too high.Richard Lacy at 626-338-2282 has all the parts and will help you with advice.

Plus, if you install the MT hubs and drums on the rear you don't need a brake drum puller to remove the drums. They slide right off. Reuse your stock Ford rear wheel bearings as the new ones are of dubious quality. Last edited by 19Fordy; 01-20-2017 at 03:03 PM. |

Re: Front brake drums
Thanks everyone for the information. Those MT units look great....and so much easier to adjust.

Are you trying to replace worn out 51A drums and keep your pre-existing hubs?
