They make a flexible tool about 2ft long, that has 3 little finger grabbers. It operates by a plunger. They have'm at Harbor Freight. I've used mine to get little things I've dropped in impossible places for the hand and fingers to go.

I had an aftermarket air cleaner on my intake of my chevy
the bolt unloosened and fell into a running engine
It made a heck of a racket for a few seconds and then was fine for years,
when I did take the head off to replace the engine ,there were just a few indents in the piston top and no sign of the bolt

Some Duct Tapes are very sticky. Fasten it to a probe so that it does not come off of the probe.

Turn it over slowly and if it does not clunk... Start it & drive it. i dropped matches into a lawnmower engine and ran it for a few days before i took it apart again (i would pull it apart every few days just for fun back then). The matches were still on top of the piston but they were charred and they did no harm.
You cannot do as much damage with a pencil as the guy that lost his aircleaner bolt down the carb' & blew out the side of his engine block can you? ...Well at least i expect the pencil would not do that.
Come to think about it i had a motorbike where the matches got stuck in the exhuast valve and i had to pull it apart to clear it. At least if the pencil does get stuck in a valve you still have 3 other cylinders to run on

I did the very same thing with my first Model T. I went to Autozone and got a flexible grabber with three fingers and fished it out through the sparkplug whole. This maybe the "mechanics fingers" mentioned earlier. I do still remember that feeling when the engine "bit" the end of the pencil off, although, now I feel much better knowing I'm not the only one to try this.

Regards,
James

In the plumbing and heating business there is a product called thumgum. I dont
think it will stick to the engine inside but it would to the wood pencil if it can touch it.

How about making a "dart" by sticking a needle in the end of a wooden dowel. Push the pin into the pencil, preferably the eraser part, and gently lift it up.

If this works you can still use the Model A AND the pencil again.

I think it was Harbor Freight that I saw a led flight light on the end of a flexible wand. might be easier than a conventional flight light.

Since you can see it I'd try the mechanical fingers.

Oh what a relief it is" the pencil is out. I had to break it in two pc's to get it out and had to used a pair of fish hook tongs about 10" long to get it out. but it sure had no problem going in. I can still use it to order parts.thank's everone. son of 19

Glory Alleluia ! Kudos for your perseverance. I knew if you stuck to it you'd get it. We will all be a bit more careful due to your willingness to share your little goof. There was no way I would have pulled the head, if it took a week to get it out. Good for you.

Great news and glad you didn't pull the head.

But, this begs the question..........why didn't you use the timing pin to find TDC?

This is something i would DO! and Break something on the process :-(
How about Duck tape on the end of brazing rod?
i have dropped a side bar rake tooth in the gas tank of a Case VAC...trying to check the gas, the gas ate up the rubber and on an empty tank i fished it out with a magnet on a cb antenna

Ok glad two hear you got it out, two questions one for you, curious of your username son of 19?

Next question for dumb person why would you drop matches into at least 2different cylinders were you checking to see if your fuel mixture would burn? I will refrain from joking about your user name.
