Default Chebby dist to replace 8BA

From what I have read on the barn here, one of the best ignition set ups is the Chevy distributor, adapted to the 8BA, Has anyone used the Petronix system in that distributor ? I did a search, and got some great information on setting up the vacuum and mechanical advance. Thank you Fordbarners.

Match the Pertronix with the correct coil and it will be great.

The original distributors will not work well (if at all) with a carburetor change or other modifications. The original does not have any counter weights and depends on the internal carburetor porting for ignition advance.

Changing to a Gm distributor is probably the best bang for the buck you can do to a flathead. Properly tuned this will improve both power ans economy. However< you must consider the Chevy spark curve is nor compatable with the Flathead engine. A goos start is 16 degs advance @ 2000 Rpm with 4 degs initial. Vacuum adv 8 degs. I use this as a starting point and go from there. It's not plug and play. Also the points work well with a 6volt system and last along time. WE don't use the Petronics system we use the Mopar one.
