Re: Oil
If you drive under 1000 miles each year, I recommend every 6 months. If you drive several thousand miles each year, change it every 800 to 1000 miles. Oil is cheap

Re: Oil
Also this going to depend on a lot of factors, how hot you run the engine and far it is driven after each start up are two. The oil needs to get hot to remove mosture and other blow-by products. Mostly intown driving, highway driving? Lots of variables.

Re: Oil
My tank has no oil ilter but sorry i only get to take her out 7 times a year and only go about 16 miles a year in her so I really don't need oil filter But i tell you I have a 1953 M38a1 Military Jeep and had a glogged oil filter , it was so bad I took the jeep out for a run , oil fliter got clogged never got oil to #4 piston and Rod got hot bent and was 20miles from my home. I come to figure out that in the military sometimes they did't even replace oil filters for that reason, so i run no oil filter in it now and has 90psi on the oil gage now after $1,500.00 in repairs as well cutting the old crank.

Re: Oil
I go 1000+- on Penzoil 10-30w no filter. Oil stays pretty clean. Drive at least 40 miles ea run. 34,000 on rebuild. engine has not been opened up since. use MMO in gas to help keep valves limbered-up.

Re: Oil
Running stock bypass filters clogging it wont affect the oiling to the engine....just lets a bit more go to it and not being filtered.
A 10/30 seems a bit thin to me...i run Gulfs 20/50 with the old additives(not catalytic converter friendly). |

Re: Oil
They were designed for SAE 20/W20 or SAE 30. A heavier viscosity will work but will generaly run higher oil temps due to friction unless your bearings are loose.

Re: Oil
The original owner's manual that came with my '40 said change every 2,000 miles if no oil filter and every 5,000 miles if equipped with the optional oil filter.
