Default Fuel Tank Sender

Thanks to Morris Gauge, Portland, Oregon, I know how much fuel I have.

My 1937 Ford fuel gauge did not register so I had purchased a repro sender -- it did not work. Thought the gauge was bad. I had kept the original sender with the shriveled up old cork float when I made the switch. Glad I did. I sent the original sender to Morris Gauge and they rebuilt it. I installed the rebuild and now the gauge works too. Now I know how much fuel I have. Thanks Morris Guage. I think someone here on Ford Barn had mentioned the company. Thanks.

Thanks for this info. I may get the sender rebuilt in the '39 pickup since I already have the rear end removed for work.

I like that '37 you have.

Thanks Seth.

I was keeping a fuel log with mileage and gallons. Probably will continue with that to check the accuracy of the gauge.

Just replaced the float on my sender with a float for a Model A. The cork floats get gasoline logged. A week later gauge did not work again. PO had spliced the sender unit line into the harness and had a bad connection. The system is pretty simple, just have to think out what could be wrong.

I have used floats from late model used senders that I get for free from the radiator gas tank shop. You have to modify the wire holder a bit but they work with modern fuels.

Thank you Tony. Always nice to hear a good word. As per floats, we try to adapt "nitrophyl" type floats to everything we can. Any of the single cell types can go bad and be a real pain.
