Sunday Drive around Utah Lake in Old Henry
Last Sunday we took my annual 100 mile drive around Utah Lake for my birthday (which isn't really until the 17th).
The few houses and out buildings at Pelican Point on the west side of the lake. Wider angle view looking across from Pelican Point. Looking south to Mt. Nebo Here's the movie: (I live at the foot of the pyramid shaped mountain called Mt. Baldy just this side of the larger mountain called Mt. Timpanogos.) The music is the Utah State Hymn "Utah We Love Thee". http://youtu.be/6GpB5i8FPv8

Looks like you went clockwise? Also, the third photo makes the "telephone poles look like a picket fence." (From Hot Rod Lincoln)

Re: Sunday Drive around Utah Lake in Old Henry
Yeah. I always miss the turn off at Genola to go around the north end of West Mountain if I go the other way and end up in Santaquin instead. Here's the map of how I get around the lake "off the beaten path", i.e. "the road less traveled by": https://goo.gl/maps/WqYRR

Re: Sunday Drive around Utah Lake in Old Henry
Hi Prof. Henry, Thanks for bringing us along again. I liked the map, that helped me visualize your trip. I went back and placed myself at Pelican Point. For others who look at it, I had to zoom in a little to see the route trace.

Re: Sunday Drive around Utah Lake in Old Henry
Sony WX350 point and shoot. It's 18 MP 20X optical zoom. I chose it mostly for it's superior HD video. I usually have it mounted on a mono-pod for video but forgot it on this trip so just held it up against the rear view mirror to stabilize.

One other little interesting feature in the lake: If you zoom in just north of Lincoln Beach on the south end you can see Bird Island. For many years I sailed out to that island with my boys at night under a full moon navigating by the stars (two mile trip) and camped overnight right at the bird nesting time when the island was covered with thousands of seagull and pelican nests and swarmed by the birds themselves. Here's the movie: http://youtu.be/tWegKJ7wxlg And, each trip we'd plant a tree, since there were no trees on the island, and look forward to coming back the next year to see if it made it through the winter. Here's the only one that did, a Navaho Umbrella tree planted from a branch rooted from the tree in our back yard. The tree in our back yard is 30 feet high and 60 feet in diameter. This one on the island dwarfed because of the harsh conditions and only grew 6 feet tall but a perfectly shaped miniature of the huge on in our yard. This picture was taken in 2005. Thereafter, the level of the lake water rose above the island and there was no island for a few years so we didn't go and the tree was drowned.

Re: Sunday Drive around Utah Lake in Old Henry
The route around Utah Lake brings back memories of the early 50's, traveled the same roads in my '36 coupe.. I have always called the '36, "Henry", have a '39 Plym conv I call "Walter".. In my mind, I don't see much feminality in old cars.. Well maybe, being tempromental qualifies..

Re: Sunday Drive around Utah Lake in Old Henry
Pepe? We left him home for this short drive. He hates riding and we didn't start his meds early enough to calm him down. There was a conspicuously empty seat that dear old Betsy has occupied so many times, God rest her soul. We miss her. She was such fun. AnnaRae and her mother came along. I'm not sure they enjoy it near as much as Betsy used to.
