Canadian built engines in Australia and New Zealand
All
I am trying to correct or corroborate some information on my web site that I believe is in error. In Question: Quote:
I would like to correct any errors on my web page, and also better understand the prefixes used which have appeared, both for car and truck Canadian RHD engines. Additionally, any similar information/examples for Canadian built RHD Model B engines would also be appreciated. Thank You! http://www.fordgarage.com/pages/ABenginenumbers.htm

Re: Canadian built engines in Australia and New Zealand
Vince. I have 1930 standard roadster with engine CA53781, body number 7F93 and unknown chassis number.
It has 28 style curved bumpers, oval speedo, Robertson head screws and 7 tooth steering. My wife has 31 Tudor ( registration papers say 1932) with engine number CA 63283, early style steering column support - not dash mounted- and non-indented firewall. Both are RHD of course Hope this helps EDIT. I see the Tudor engine on the reg. Papers is CAI 6087. So the engine must have been changed years ago. The roadster engine seems too early for the car too. I guess many have been changed like this. Probably not much help to you after all!! SAJ in NZ Last edited by SAJ; 12-23-2016 at 04:09 AM. Re: Canadian built engines in Australia and New Zealand
My 1928 Phaeton (now in the UK) is a Canadian built Australian car and RHD. The engine number is CA69764.
Interestingly my Uncle's 1928 Open Cab pickup (also Canadian built but from Kenya) has a CAA prefix on the engine, but it doesn't fit your numbering (CAA56418). Any ideas on that? Last edited by patnmand; 12-23-2016 at 05:19 AM. Reason: Corrected engine numbers |

Re: Canadian built engines in Australia and New Zealand
I have a Canadian built 1930 CCPU that was LHD and lived its life in Canada as far as I can tell until only a few years ago. Engine number CA101545
Also have an Australian delivery '29 Phaeton, Canadian built engine CAQ7659

Vince,
Are you also interested in South African RHD cars as well?

I have received recent information from Ford Motor Company of Australia Pty. Ltd. that proves that the 'F' was added to the Canadian Model B engine number for RHD by 1934. The question now is how much earlier was it added, and with which prefixes? Additional data points including an 'F' would be great! Thank you for your responses, and I will follow up with my comments after a few more responses hopefully. This might also be a good time to mention that I have tried unsuccessfully for many years to obtain a set of original or copies of 1928-34 Model A and B Service Bulletins published by Ford Australia. I have been in contact in the past with a number of the prominent researchers and club members in Australia who are in the know, but I have been unable to get a set. Anyone who could help connect me to a set of Australian Service Bulletins, or other primary Ford Australia documentation would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Thanks for your comments on the CAA prefix. I realized that I made a mistake constructing the table (dyslexia?) and fixed it. It has been like that a number of years. Your CAA engine is totally expected and no anomaly.

Re: Canadian built engines in Australia and New Zealand
Guys,
Thanks for all the info received here as well as through email including Dave and Bick! It appears that the 'F' in the engine number prefix was added in early 1933 to Canadian production.
