Default Spark Plug Wire Holders

I plan to use the original spark plug wire holders on the 8BA I am building.

The engine I salvaged them from had all of the Left hand side (5-8) wires routed through both holders and all of the Right hand side loose.

Does anyone have any pictures of the original layout ?

Look through this thread and you will find and 8BA with a spark plug wire holders similar to yours. Even though the holders are a different style at their top, I think the routing is still the same.

There are directions and a "photo" on page 57 of the 49-51 shop manual.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I don't have a factory Manual.

Those pictures on that link 19Fordy do give a good indication of how they routed the wires. That basically reflects what I observed on the old engine I salvaged these from. These holders when removed were bent at odd angles as in the pictures although not so easy to discern. A side on shot would illustrate this better .

I wonder if they have become bent over time?

Those pictures would suggest that they should be straight up and down.

They get bent when various folks used a 9/16 socket on the bolt head.

While doing research on the 49-51 Mercury at the Benson Ford Research center a while back, I came across this drawing of the 0BA-12290 Ign. Cable and bracket assembly. I hope that this helps.

After some trial and error and some straightening of these brackets this is the arrangement I have come up with. Seems to achieve what is set out in the drawing.
