Default Electric Fuel Pump

There was a post on here sometime back about a supplier for a vane type inline electric fuel pump. Mine died today on my 40 Convertible , first time in 17 years it ever put me down. Good news is my neighbor came by and gave me a tow.

If it lasted for 17 years I would go get another one of those!

Good point. My thinking is that maybe this stuff they call gas nowadays has played a role in my pump going bad. I had read a post some time ago about someone selling a vane type pump and it has no rubber parts inside therefore the ethanol wouldn't do any harm. But I may have to get another like the one I have. It's an AC Delco inline pump.

Ken, I would suspect that your thinking is correct.

Ken, I'm installing a Mr.Gasket #42S sun. You may want to at least look @ this one, the design seemed right for my application. Did not read that its a vane type.

#42S gravity feed micro 12V self-priming fuel pump, operating fuel psi 2-3.5 about 46.00 with tax. Install info claims avg. 2amp draw @ max delivery. 12V power (fused 5 amp max).

Ken,
Take the old pump apart and post a picture if the failure is evident.

Check the reviews of the Mr Gasket pump on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Gasket-42S-...ews/B000BWE4RC

Not exactly glowing reviews...

Ken, Mike here...
I would strongly suggest you get your new pump from Fifth Avenue. Great guys to deal with. I have installed a number of their pumps with out a hint of trouble. They come complete with mounting hardware and 30 micron filter. They are small, super quiet and are impervious to the modern fuels. No regulator is required as these pump (6v) pump at 2 1/2#. I would suggest replacing the spring clamps with a more secure type (worm / roller). 6v pump is #92415efp6. 12v is #92415efp12. They are $90 and shipped quickly.

I installed a #E8902 Airtex 6v pump on my 40Ford PU after a few years of hard starting due mostly to time lapse between use. Drove the PU avg of 700+ miles a year for 16 years before I sold it(Darn-it) & never a problem. Just got one for My 36 for same reason. It says 5 to 7 Lbs on the specs but only puts out about 3Lbs. Didnt need a regulator either. It was just noisey enough so I could hear it fill the carb & stop--then immediate start. Makes me want to cancel my plans for the day & install it!

Will do. I just arrived at the Gulf Coast today for a week of R&R. Will post my findings when I get back home.

My 2 cents worth. Facet pumps, Made by Purolater in Elmira NY, USA. All types and voltages, self regulating. No fuel pressure regulator required. Have one on the flathead powered hot rod. This is an experimental aircraft pump recommended here on the fordbarn.. Tech service at Purolaterr will pout you on to the right pump for your application. Most of them about $35.00. Aircraft & Spruce sells them among other aircraft suppliers.

Scott, I have never utilized the 12v. version but have to believe it is the same quality as the 6v. model. The ONLY thing I strongly advise is to swap out those clamps that come on it. Other than that, I have had very good results with the 6v. pumps.

Kube, that's another great web site that I'm sure a lot of us now know about, Thanks. Read the instruction and the 12V is the answer with the regulator for my app.

I have read Randy Rundles "official12-volt conversion guide" over and over while completing my start up. That book shed some light and Ron Francis provided the goods.
